Bell Ingram Paves the Way and Appoints Microgeneration
Consultant
5 October 2007

Iain Cram – Director, Joe Fergusson and Graham Lumby –
Managing Director
Bell Ingram is pleased to announce a further expansion in
its services with the appointment of a specialist in
microgeneration and small-scale renewable energy systems.
It is predicted that within the coming few years, steeply
rising world oil demand will result in a sharp increase in
inflation and particularly energy costs. At the same time
climate change is driving governments to encourage the
saving of fossil energy and to penalise its over-use by
fiscal and other means.
The global debate continues apace and there is still much to
be done as consumption of non-renewable fuels continues to
accelerate.
Despite increasing government pressure and assistance there
remains a great deal of confusion amongst the general public
and businesses alike as to what options are available to
reduce energy consumption. Those that are in a position to
install alternative methods of heating and lighting into
their home or place of work are unlikely to find the best
solution without a great deal of research and advice.
The market for renewable energy systems is growing fast but
is fairly impenetrable by non-specialists. Quality of advice
and pricing are variable and the customer is in a very
vulnerable position. Low demand for solar, micro hydro, wood
fuel, micro wind and heat pump systems is keeping costs
fairly high but pay back times are shrinking, assisted by
grants from both public and private sources..
Government-funded bodies such as the Energy Saving Trust,
the Carbon Trust and the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre
network can provide basic, generic advice but, for business
and land owners alike, detailed and independent
site-specific advice is essential.
To this end Bell Ingram, land agents and architects, has
employed the specialist services of Joe Fergusson, a
microgeneration consultant, to advise clients on reducing
energy consumption and choosing and installing the correct
renewable energy options.
Graham Lumby Managing Director stated “This is a very
exciting time for the Company. We have always taken
environmental issues very seriously and we have been looking
to make this significant appointment for quite some time.
Our business is heavily involved in energy production on the
large national scale but at the building scale our clients
have been crying out for definitive advice. Renewable energy
is a subject now very close to everyone and we feel that we
can really make a difference. Our client base is very
varied; from private landowners/land managers to farmers and
from public bodies to property developers, all of whom
require advice on energy systems to suit their particular
circumstances. No two projects are the same and we needed
someone with all-round expertise to help guide our clients
in the right direction.”
Iain Cram, Architect and Director, stated “Our clients
require expert and up-to-the-minute advice on how to design
and construct energy-efficient residential developments and
office complexes. With Joe Fergusson on board we are now
able to offer that advice in abundance.”
Joe’s services will be utilised nationally via Bell Ingram’s
12 UK office locations and he will be based in the
Ayr office.
