Welcome

Graham Lumby
Managing Director

Welcome to the summer 2008 edition of the Bell Ingram Review and I trust you are enjoying the warm, sunny weather we have recently been afforded, it has certainly made a big difference to our farming clients who 12 months ago were struggling to get into their fields. The sunshine will be a most welcome addition at the various country shows held throughout the UK during the summer and Bell Ingram is again taking stands at some of the shows listed below. Most notable we are delighted to be returning to the recently re-named Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace in July where we are joining forces with Bonhams Scotland with a fabulous stand on Gunmakers Row, hence the striking image on the front cover. Please do drop in if you’re passing.

Once again the pace of change continues unabated and we have been busy keeping on top of the recent adjustments in the property market. Steve Parlett’s article on page three describes the current financial situation we now find ourselves in and what the impacts are for those owning, selling or

buying property in England, with Archie Leslie-Melville’s perspective from Scotland on page 5.

The recently launched £1.6 Billion Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) has created the biggest change in rural grant funding in recent years and both Mark Mitchell and Richard Till examine the finer points of the scheme on pages 7 and 8, both from a land agent’s and a forester’s point of view. Whilst the overall pot would appear to be significant there are many demands on it and the overriding advice from Mark and Richard is that if you’re considering a future claim you should submit it sooner rather than later to give yourself the best opportunity of success. We recently opened our newest office in Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway and the team there are already dealing with a large proportion of SRDP enquiries.

And finally, Joe Fergusson our microgeneration specialist has once again come up trumps with a fascinating article on green energy, a subject now growing close to many of our hearts. Joe is quite unique in that his expert knowledge stretches to all methods of microgeneration and he is therefore able to offer objective advice, which is invariably always site specific. In his feature on page six he highlights the increasing availability of grant funding for green energy schemes and how you can best benefit.

I hope you enjoy reading your Bell Ingram Review and once again please don’t hesitate to contact me or one of our team if you have any feedback or require any specific advice.
