Oban which is about 2¼ hours drive
(97 miles) by road from Glasgow also enjoys a railway connection via the beautiful West Highland Line from Glasgow and the South.

SITUATION

The Island of Rubh’a Chruidh enjoys a commanding position off the north eastern tip of Kerrera giving magnificent views across Oban Bay, the Sound of Kerrera and to Lismore with the Morvern Peninsula beyond,

Oban offers a wide range of facilities and can be reached within 15 minutes by boat. There are regular trains to Glasgow or Inverness and the Seaplane based at the Oban Marina on Kerrera, just half a mile from Rubh’a Chruidh, offers three flights daily to Glasgow taking only 24 minutes.

Whilst retaining a high degree of privacy, Rubh’a Chruidh is also very accessible.

This part of Oban and Lorn is considered one of the most scenic areas of Scotland with constant panoramic views of the mountains, lochs and islands which have captivated artists and poets for centuries. Beyond Oban lie the islands of the Inner Hebrides such as Lismore, Mull, Iona, Coll, Colonsay and Tiree.

There are many recreational activities on the mainland such as hill walking, cycling, golf and skiing at Glencoe whilst from Rubh’a Chruidh there are outstanding sailing opportunities, bird watching and sea fishing. The area provides a habitat for an exceptional variety of wild life including otters, seals, sea eagles and much more.

DIRECTIONS

Coming into Oban on the A85 follow signs to town centre. As the harbour comes into view, bear right signed to North Pier. After a short distance you will see a public car park and The Columba Hotel on the left. This is North Pier and the owners boat will usually berth at the southernmost jetty.

DESCRIPTION

Rubh’a Chruidh is a small 4 acre island, well sheltered by Kerrera, with a well maintained four bedroom bungalow, a further bothy and substantial jetty with pontoon giving permanent access and mooring for boats in all weather. There is a further mooring close by in Ardantrive Bay.

A pathway leads from the jetty to a bothy close by, which is used to store boat equipment, and onwards to the house. The house is of Doran construction and has been well maintained but it is thought likely that the local authority may give permission to alter, extend or even replace this with a new house if desired. There is an area of garden ground mainly down to lawns with daffodils, wild flowers and rhododendrons well sheltered by a small stand of trees to the north.
