DESCRIPTION
The shellfish ponds are housed within a modern wide span steel
portal framed building with profile galvanised steel sheet roof and
side cladding. A double sliding door (3m x 3m) provides access in
the south east gable to a spacious working area with cold store and
office off.
A pumphouse and generator shed providing seawater
supply and electricity are situated adjacent to the main building. A
portacabin provides WC and washbasin together with bed sitting room
and cooking facilities for the plant operator.
The site which
extends to around 4.50 acres surrounds the building and is bounded
on the seaward side by a substantial sea wall with provision for
vehicular access to the foreshore for water intake maintenance. A
concrete apron 7m deep with central drain runs the full width of the
building. The remainder of the site provides extensive space for
storage and car parking.
The house site lies adjacent and above the working area with an
attractive outlook north east across the Gairsay Sound towards
Rousay.

x 15m - modern 5 bay steel portal frame building with steel
purlins and profile steel roof and side cladding and concrete
floor. Full lighting, washing facilities and hot water supply.
In addition to the shellfish ponds the building houses cold
store, working area and office.

Shellfish Ponds
the ponds are of rectangular concrete construction in two rows
of eight each measuring 7.00m x 7.25m x 0.8m. The pond walls are
topped with concrete slabs for ease of access with a circular
timber walkway providing further access throughout the interior.

Working area
15.00m x 5.80m with concrete floor and central drain.

Cold Store 2.60m
x 2.60m (14cu m) a free standing Chillaire Isis cold store.

Office 2.30m x
2.80m overlooking the working area with electricity supply and
telephone.

Portacabin 6.10m
x 2.70m situated outwith the main building, the portacabin
provides WC and washbasin together with bed sitting room and
cooking facilities.
Services

Water Supply -
two electric pumps (one standby) draw seawater to a circular
150mm pvc piped system with inflows to each pond. A
re-circulation pump is located at the north end of the building.
The water system is fully valved for maintenance and controlled
from a central switch panel within the building.

Electricity
supply - mains. Two diesel generators provide a back-up 3 phase
240V supply to the plant. The generators are housed within a
5.0m x 4.50m building of timber construction with cast iron roof
and concrete floor.

Air Supply - a
single electric air pump feeds a perforated pvc pipe system to
each pond.
house Site
Above the working area is an attractive house site with planning
consent for a single dwelling. The site is ideally positioned for a
plant managers house.
