Glencalvie offers
guests the rare opportunity of enjoying a sporting and family
holiday in the Victorian and Edwardian tradition with all the
comforts of modern living. A memorable Highland Experience
Glencalvie Lodge was built in 1910 by C.W. Dyson Perrins (of Lea
and Perrins fame) as one of his sporting lodges in Ross-shire, the
architect being A. Maitland of Tain. The Reception rooms include a
fine drawing room with birch log fire, dining room, breakfast room
and games room with half size billiard table. There is also a
conservatory and the lodge is well equipped with an excellent gun
and rod room, drying room and kitchen with Aga.
The lodge is looked after by the house-Keeper, who lives on the
estate, supported by a daily help. We suggest you bring your own
cook but if this is not convenient we can supply or suggest suitable
agencies. Should you wish traditional Highland Lodge after-dinner
entertainment we can also arrange for the services of a piper
There are five double bedrooms with private bathrooms, three
single bedrooms (two with private bathrooms) and two staff bedrooms.
For guests who require it we can arrange additional telephone
and fax facilities.
The 5 acres of lawns and gardens are most attractively laid out
and lovingly maintained with a small loch in the front of the lodge
which is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout. There is also a
hard tennis court. As guests of the Estate you are honorary members
of the new Carnegie Golf Course at nearby Skibo Castle. Royal
Dornoch is only 40 minutes away and Bonar Bridge course 25 minutes.
FISHING
Glencalvie has some of the best fishing on the River Carron
including the famous Falls Pool and there is salmon fishing for 4
rods with an annual catch of 60-100 salmon. The first fish arrive at
Glencalvie at the beginning of May, and through until the end of the
season on 30th September, given the right water conditions, rods can
enjoy spectacular sport. A knowledgeable ghillie will ensure that
you make the most of your sport.
There are a number of hill lochs on the estate with both wild
and stocked brown trout. Boats are available on three of the lochs.
STALKING
The forests of Glencalvie and Diebidale carry a good stock of
deer and 2 rifles can expect to take 5-10 stags each week during
September and October. The estate is traversed by well maintained
pony tracks and you will have the services of two experienced
stalkers. If required additional stalking can be rented in the area.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Glencalvie is 1 hour from Inverness mainline station and 1 hour
15 minutes from Inverness Airport. Guests can be uplifted by
