GOLF

Turnberry was recently voted the number 1 golfing resort in Europe and welcomes the beginner at golf with as much enthusiasm as it does its international competitors.

The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy was set up to assist golfers of every level of expertise to get the most out of the links courses and Turnberry is the only course to have both an Open Championship qualifying course (The Kintyre), as well as the famous Open Championship course itself (The Ailsa).
For those wishing to test their short game, The Arran 9 hole course provides a challenge.

2006 saw the Seniors Open Championship at Turnberry and it has recently been awarded The Open Championship in 2009 and the Amateur Championship in 2008.

There are many other top class golf courses within the area including another Open Championship course at Royal Troon.

ABOUT THE AREA

Milton Wynd is a new development of luxury flats situated on the beautiful Ayrshire coast at Turnberry. They are within 5 minutes walk of the world renowned Turnberry Golf Course and Hotel.

Just along the coast is Culzean Castle built by the famous architect Robert Adam between 1777 and 1792. Culzean is a beautiful castle in an incredibly dramatic location. Set on the very cliff edge, with sheer drops down to the Irish Sea, Culzean was built as the bachelor residence for the Earl of Cassillis. There are wonderful gardens and beach walks with a play area for children. During the summer months there are guided tours of the castle itself and the Gift Shop is open for souvenirs as well as a wide selection of gifts at their Christmas Fair.

Just up the coast at Largs, the ferry will take you to the Isle of Arran with its 13th century
stronghold of Brodick Castle and Scotland’s newest whisky distillery at Lochranza where experienced guides will let you into one or two special secrets about Scotland’s favourite tipple ! It is also the home of Arran Aromatics where you can see beautiful candles and soaps being hand made.

On from Arran the ferry will take you to the Isle of Bute, the ancestral home of the Stuart Kings of Scotland. Here you can visit Rothesay Castle, an 800 year old ruin built by a hereditary High Steward of Scotland from which the surname Stewart, or Stuart, was derived. Destroyed in the 17th century the Stuart family under the 2nd Earl of Bute moved 7 miles to the south and built Mount Stuart House. Inspired by his artistic, religious and astrological interests the 3rd Marquess built one of the most magnificent Victorian Gothic mansions in the world. The house is a ‘work in progress’ and is still being improved and restored today. It is one of the most fascinating buildings in Britain.

Rather than take the ferry, why not book a ride on the paddle steamer Waverly, the only traditional vessel still cruising the Firth of Clyde.

OTHER AMENITIES

Turnberry Hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from the flats and has many facilities to offer the public. The Spa at Turnberry is a luxurious setting in which to relax and be pampered. There is a twenty metre pool, with a gentle waterfall at one side and on the other amazing views over the Irish Sea to Ailsa Craig. They offer a range of treatments throughout the year.

The Outdoor Activity Centre offers a wide variety of pursuits such as off road driving, four wheel biking, shooting, fishing, falconry, horse riding etc.

There are three different restaurants at the Hotel and just along the road at the village of Maidens, Wildings Restaurant offers fine cuisine for either lunch or dinner. There are many high quality restaurants within the area whether it be good pub food or fine dining with something to suit all tastes.
The town of Ayr is a 30 minute drive along the A77 and has a wide variety of shops as well as places of interest such as the Burns Memorial Centre and Brig O’Doon. This is the setting for the dramatic finale of Robert Burns’ epic poem, Tam O’Shanter.

Glasgow is a city of huge diversity and provides international shopping, museums, art galleries, theatres, the Science Centre, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh trail and much, much more.

DIRECTIONS

From Ayr follow the A77 straight through to Turnberry. As you come down the hill you will see Turnberry Hotel on your right hand side and the entrance to Milton Wynd on your left. Turn into the drive and follow the road round to the left until you are facing a roundabout. The flats are on the right hand side.
