FISHING The Upper Oykel extends from Loch Ailsh to
the Oykel Falls above Oykel Bridge. The fishings include 7 miles of
double bank fishing surrounded by the most wild and remote hills of
central Sutherland. The river is let with accommodation at the Oykel
Bridge Hotel in four beats with up to 3 rods permitted per beat.
There is good vehicular access to the river by a stone track from
the A837 public road at Oykel Bridge. A four wheel drive vehicle is
recommended.
Fish normally move over the Oykel falls into the Upper Oykel from
mid June onwards with the river normally carrying a good stock of
fish from then until the end of the season on 30 September. Fishing
is by fly only. In accordance with the Oykel Conservation Programme
all fish over 65cm are returned.
